I got adventurous in the Bishop Arts District the other day and was really wanting some good, authentic Mexican food.  It just always seems to hit the spot.  I was driving down Davis and saw a tiny taco stand on the street corner with cars filling all of the curbs and empty space.  I decided that to see what all of this hooplah is all about.  It is called Taqueria El Si Hay and if you blink you’ll miss it.  Inside this red, little hut are two genuine Mexicans making tacos the traditional way.  Serving up just 7 different styles of tacos, their business is booming and I found out why.  I figured I would do a little sample of these tacos and got one al pastor, one bistek, and one chorizo, of course with the onion, cilantro, and doubled corn tortillas (you can also get flour).  From their small window you can sneak a peek inside and see them make your tacos on the griddle.  You smell them way before you get to eat them, but in minutes they’re done.  They were absolutely wonderful! Each bite was bursting with flavor and I ate them in record time.  They come with salsa, but beware, if you don’t like spicy flavors stay away from this because it is flaming-a fruity, yummy heat.  My favorite by far was the al pastor! I could nom on those all day long!  And the best part is that I got all of them for only $4—$1.30 for each taco.  That’s a steal.  They also offer beef and chicken fajitas, barbacoa, and lengua tacos.  Another secret of theirs is horchata, it’s not on the menu but they have it.  The best time to go would be for dinner because there is an old man who comes out and sets up shop in from of the taqueria and sells his elotes, also for super cheap.  I will be going back to get me elotes, I know it!  I highly recommend this little hole-in-the-wall.

    Happy eatings, L
